A downloadable game

Edit: Some things I wanna note:

  • It doesn't happen very often, but there are a collision bug that can arise if you start gaining enough momentum and spam the fuck out out of jump and dive. 
  • If you fall through the world, you'll be teleported back at the start of the level, so you won't be softlocked or anything. 
  • Not a *big* deal for a free gamejam, especially I rly just made for fun and to practice scope management, 
  • You'll lose a little bit of time you could've shaven off, so be a bit careful bouncing, 
  • BUT if you keep running while falling, you won't lose momentum when you "respawn" so use that to you're advantage! :3
  • The collision bugs *probably* (by "probably" I mean "definitely")  have something to do with the fact that I used CSG (godot's boolean-based geometry) which has it's own built-in collision which tends to be a bit buggy when making stuff a bit more complicated, which isn't a bit deal for a lot of games but it is for platformers. Unfortunately this means I can't fix this bug without making an entire new level in Blender ;-;
  • If I were to expand this into a full game, I'd ofc use proper collision and geometry instead of the jank CSG cubes, and probably polish the art a big more (I think Jester's (yeah that's actually their name) sprite is alright in motion and the ball animation for the jump/dive is rly good-looking but the part of their run cycle where they're legs are extended (i forget what that's called) looks a bit weird. It sells the foreshortening in motion, which is actually what matters, but it looks rly weird freeze framed


My submission for the April Fools jam

It's kind of like Sonic meets a time-trial racing game, the goal is to complete the level as quickly as possible using simple but emergent movement options, with an emphasis on never stopping in order to keep momentum going

Controls

run - Left Stick, WASD 

(The longer you keep running, the faster you go. Letting go of run controls resets momentum to the start, so don't stop moving. But there is no limit to how much faster you can accelerate and it keep racking up)

turn (left and right only) - Right stick, moue look

(This works independently from running, meaning can combine strafing and turning to achieve different movement techniques)

Jump (when on ground) and Dive (when in air) - bottom face button (as in Xbox A or PS Cross)

(Jump and diving  *adds* to you're upward/downward momentum, rather than having a fixed momentum, so you can jump and dive while running fast to add to you're overall speed)

Using all three of these controls in tandum can create some rly cool movement tech, since all the speed you gain adds up togethe, play around with it!


BTW, in the comments, tell me your speedrun record. the best I managed to get mine down to just to was just under 87 seconds (there's only one level) but I wanna see if someone else can beat that :3
